Oologah Town Board members officially accepted town clerk Sandy McNaughton’s resignation at a special meeting Monday morning.
The board will need to appoint someone to serve in the position until the next election in April. McNaughton also served as town treasurer and court clerk.
“Due to a hostile work environment brought on by a town board member, I don’t feel I can continue to work for the Town of Oologah,” McNaughton said in her resignation letter.
Interested applicants for the clerk’s position must reside in the town limits. Applications are available at town hall.
Mayor Jerry Holland announced plans to leave the board at a July 1 meeting. He didn’t give a specific date for his resignation.
Board member Mat Shockley asserted at a recent meeting that Holland’s resignation could only be rescinded through written notice. The town attorneys were asked to look into the issue.
Assistant town attorney Dale Jackson said based on his research a resignation is not official until it’s submitted in writing.
