Directors of Rural Water District No. 4 spent their regular meeting Friday looking towards the future.

Office Manager Julie Hendrix said Jeremy Cox and Thomas Gay addressed directors about cost-saving ideas for the district ranging from reducing the cost of propane used at the water treatment plant to revising procedures for certain kinds of field work to reduce mileage.

Following an executive session, directors promoted Cox to plant manager. Hendrix said the move was based on the anticipation that plant supervisor Melvin Hart would be retiring in two to three years and that it was time for a successor to start being prepared for the job.

Also after that session, directors decided to return to using time sheets instead of a time clock to record employee.

No new taps were on the agenda, but the board approved 10 transfers.
