Oologah gave the top ranked Wagoner Bulldogs all they could handle in a 42-28 road loss Thursday night.
In the first half, the Mustangs did something no other team in 4A has been able to do. The defense shut down Wagoner’s explosive running back, Lawrence Evitt. The leading rusher in 4A was held to just two yards rushing in the first half.
“Our defense was definitely keyed in on him. We knew they would make adjustments at half-time and it would be hard to hold him down the whole game,” Oologah head coach Brandon Craig said.
The game was tied late in the third quarter. The Bulldogs scored a touchdown with less two minutes left to remain undefeated.
“I’m really pleased with how we played. We made a few key mistakes that if we could have cleaned them up we could have won the game,” coach Craig said.
