The Oologah Mustangs are chomping at the bit to start the football season.
Oologah kicks off against county rival Claremore at 7 p.m. this Thursday night. It’s the final time the two teams will face off.
The Oologah offense will be led by junior quarterback Payton Craig. Wide receiver targets will be sophomores Breyden DeSpain, Logan Armstrong and Keenen Ferrier. The Mustang passing game has looked sharp in pre-season action.
Fifth year head coach Brandon Craig will have a strong squad of running backs to call on. Senior Chance Keim and sophomore Jimmy McKinney will get plenty of opportunities to carry the pigskin.
The offensive line should be a strength for Oologah this season. Senior Tyler Base (6′ 3″, 280) and senior Britton Bishop (6′ 3″, 280) will anchor the line. Base is being recruited by several Division I colleges.
The Mustangs also look solid on defense. A big defensive line and a strong group of linebackers should pose problems for opposing offenses. Cash Dietz, Austin Madison and Thomas Helvick should rack up the tackles this season.
