A 12-year-old boy was bitten by a copperhead snake Monday night in Talala.
Elijah Townes was playing hide and seek at a friend’s house just after dark. Townes was on the edge of a wooded area when he felt a painful sting on his right ankle.
Townes’ father, Steve Pales, said at first his son thought he’d been bitten by a scorpion. The boy ran to his friend’s house and adults quickly determined he had been bitten by a venomous snake.
They contacted Pales and he called OTEMS. The adults went to the location where Townes was bitten and they found a young copperhead snake. The snake was killed.
Townes was taken to St. Francis in Tulsa.
“He’s doing OK,” Pales said. “We believe God will reduce the swelling and help him recover.”
