Oologah junior Tristan Owens ran away with three medals from the USA Track and Field Youth National Championships last month.
The track meet was held June 25-30 inEdwardsville,Illinois. This was Owens’ third time competing at the summer nationals with the Jenks America Club. Owens has medaled all three times at nationals.
Owens took second in the 3,000m run. He set a personal best time of 9.09 and he was just four seconds behind the national champion.
“It was a really competitive field so it was nice to come back with some medals and to have set some personal best times,” Owens said.
Owens, two runners from Jenks and another from Henryetta took third in the 3,000m relay. Owens also finished seventh in the 1,500m run with a personal best time of 4.11.
Owens competed in the 17 and 18 year-old age group. The top 12 runners made the finals and the top eight medaled.
Owens was a runner up at 4A state last season in the 3,200m and 1,600m races. Owens trains year round and he usually runs six days a week.
“Running in the summer club is important to keeping me in shape and now I’m getting ready to start training for cross country,” he said.
