Brenna Magette has been selected as Oologah’s teacher of the year.
The middle school science teacher was stunned when her name was called at a faculty assembly last Thursday. The four teachers of the year from each building were candidates for district teacher of the year.
“I was a nervous wreck,” Magette said. “We were all told to be prepared and I had a whole speech ready and then I forgot it. It really does feel surreal.”
After having some time to calm down, Magette took advantage of a second opportunity to give her speech.
“I am very humbled by the middle school staff nominating me from our site and I’m very honored the district committee selected me to represent Oologah,” she said. “That’s what I had planned on saying at the assembly but I was so shocked and nervous I just forgot.”
Superintendent Rob Armstrong said it was a difficult decision for the judges because all four teachers were outstanding candidates.
“We’re excited and thrilled for her to represent our district,” he said. “We wish her the best of luck as she continues her journey towards state teacher of the year. It’s been awhile since Dale Long represented Oologah as Oklahoma teacher of the year and we’re looking forward to our next one.”
