Terry Butcher videoed a small tornado moving across the prairie west of Talala for about six minutes on Monday. Just before the storm reaches him, he closes the door of the storm cellar and the video stops.
Terry said the sound was incredibly loud as the tornado moved over. Worried that the storm would suck the door off the shelter, he squeezed behind the ladder and held on.
But Butcher isn’t complaining. He feels lucky compared to what the folks in Moore suffered.
The damage doesn’t look too bad, but a closer examination shows just how destructive even a small tornado can be. The photo shows where the tornado blew through the west window of his den, spreading glass througout the house. It moved the wall and popped the sheetrock loose. The ceiling is warped in the bedroom above.
