Otto, a longtime resident of Oologah, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 at the young age of 88.
Otto was born Dec. 7, 1924 in Byars, Oklahoma to Everett Omer ‘EO’ and Elizabeth Delilah ‘Lizzy’ (Haynes) Penner where he received his education.
His family lost their store during the depression and in 1938 they moved to Oologah, where they farmed and ranched for a living. Otto enjoyed playing basketball in school and met his future wife, Lettie, whom he started dating at age 16.
On August 26, 1943 Otto married Lettie Lou Castleberry. They were married for almost 70 years and had three children, Betty Joyce ‘BJ’, Otto, Jr. and Tamma Lou ‘Tami’. Otto continued to be a rancher and a driller on oil wells. Otto worked for McDonnell Douglas for 11 years, retired in 1984 and devoted his time to ranching.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lettie Lou of their home; his children, ‘BJ’ Penner and Otto Penner, Jr. of Oologah and ‘Tami’ (Penner) Hanes of Magnolia,Texas. Otto has five grandchildren; Henry Hanes, Alan Hanes, Heather Hanes, Cody Hanes and Hunter Hanes. He also has three great grandchildren; Braden Garza, Kadence Pittman and Jennifer Pittman and two sisters; LaVeta (Penner) Collins and Marie (Penner) Willey. He was special to a large extended family. Some referred to him as ‘Grandpa’ and to several more he was ‘Uncle Ott’ or ‘Uncle Fudd’.
He was the seventh son of ten children and is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Youel, Hulen, Rach, Kenneth, Alvie, Marvin andChesterand his granddaughter Heidi Penner.
