The Mustangs were knocked out of the basketball playoffs after battling hard at the Berryhill regional last weekend.

Oologah rallied for an overtime win over Metro Christian Friday but fell to Cascia Hall Saturday in the consolation bracket.

The Mustangs needed overtime to take down Metro Christian 39-32. It was a defensive battle in the first half.

“We played great defense in the first quarter and that kept us in the game until our offense started clicking. We were very efficient on the offensive end after the first four minutes and we only had five turnovers in four quarters and overtime,” Oologah head coach Jim Deaton said. “We had several opportunities to pull away in the fourth quarter but we missed six free throws and five more in overtime.”

The Mustangs lost a must win game 47-45 to Cascia Hall Saturday.

“We fell behind 12-0 to start the game and we seemed to be a little intimidated by their size and aggressiveness,” coach Deaton said. “We kept our composure and slowly pulled back into the game.”

Deaton will miss his two seniors, but he has high hopes for his young squad next season. Seven players will return to the lineup.

“We had a great season and our kids have nothing to hang their heads about. I was proud of their effort. They left everything they had on the court and as a coach that’s all you can ask for,” Deaton said.
